Rockwood, OR — Last week, the Rockwood Community Development Corporation hosted Oregon Senators Jeff Merkley and Ron Wyden, Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Michael Regan, Oregon Governor Kate Brown, Multnomah County Chair Deborah Kafoury, Mayor Travis Stovall, and many other local governmental and nonprofit leaders.

When this many people in positions of influence and power converge on a community such as Rockwood, it is a sure sign that things are changing. For so long, the Rockwood community has been “off the map” for local, state, and national public officials.

This convergence of leaders represents a shift — one that shows that the powers that be are beginning to seek to understand the complexities, challenges, and systemic injustices that take place in communities like Rockwood.

Our work at the Rockwood CDC facilitates collaborative solutions with our neighbors and local leaders that provide pathways for residents to thrive educationally, economically, and relationally.

While we are excited to see these local, regional, and national figures at the table, we know it has been and will continue to be the local voices — our neighbors, our faith communities, the nonprofits, the schools, businesses large and small, our healthcare providers, and governmental leaders — that will bring about real change in our community.
